After two decades officiating at the highest levels of football and nineteen years in education, I now design technology and decision-support systems that help athletic departments, coaching staffs, and student-athletes perform at their best.
In 2021, Maia Chaka became the first African American woman to officiate in the National Football League, the culmination of a trailblazing career in NCAA Division I football and nineteen years as an educator. But titles and accolades were never the point. Her career has always been defined by a relentless drive to build solutions, elevate sportsmanship, and advocate for those who need it most.
Operating at the highest levels of professional sport meant making split-second decisions under national scrutiny. Yet her most defining leadership decision happened off the field. In the spring of 2022, while still active in the NFL, Maia took full-time custody of her 13-year-old cousin in need of stability, placing his future above her own career path without a second thought.
Today, Life After the Whistle represents Maia's evolution from enforcing rules to architecting systems that transform lives and keep her intentionally connected to the game on her terms.
